West Indies toured India from 27 September to 17 October 2026 for three ODIs and five T20Is. India won the ODI series 2-1. The T20I series finished 2-2 after rain washed out the decider in Bengaluru, so the two teams shared the trophy.

India vs West Indies ODI series 2026 summary
1st ODI match summary

Justin Greaves hit a maiden ODI hundred (101) and John Campbell added 62. They put on 135 for the first wicket.
Then Kuldeep Yadav, back in the ODI side, took 4/40 and was named player of the match. West Indies lost 4 wickets for 22 runs from 176/1.
India’s chase was over almost before it started. Gill made 110 off 108 balls, and Virat Kohli finished unbeaten on 139 off 88 with 10 fours and 9 sixes. It was his 55th ODI hundred, and he went past 15,000 ODI runs along the way.
The turning point was that collapse. West Indies were 135/0 in the 20th over and finished with a total Kohli and Gill treated as small. India reached 300/2 in 41.4 overs.
2nd ODI match summary
India won by 8 wickets with 39 balls remaining. West Indies batted first and scored 405/7, and India still chased it down in 43.3 overs.
Gill’s unbeaten 223 off 133 balls was the best individual performance of the tour. His double century took 117 balls, the fastest in ODI history. It is also the highest score by an ODI captain and the highest in an ODI chase.
Rohit Sharma made 101 off 75 balls, and the two shared an opening stand of 255. India’s 406/2 is the second-highest successful chase in ODI history.
Five centuries came in one match, a first in ODI cricket. Amir Jangoo scored 114, Hope 104 and Campbell 101 for West Indies, and Gill and Rohit answered. Hope and Jangoo added 182 for the third wicket, which would have won most games.
It didn’t win this one. Gill took the game apart once Keemo Paul came back into the attack in the 15th over, and the series was India’s with a match to spare.
3rd ODI match summary
West Indies won by 5 wickets with 10 balls to spare. India batted first and made 351/7. West Indies chased 352 in 48.2 overs.
India were in trouble early. Jayden Seales removed Gill (caught behind for 1) and Kohli (bowled first ball) in the same over. Rohit made 92 off 85 balls and added 137 with Ruturaj Gaikwad. KL Rahul then finished with 129 not out off 87.
Hope had other ideas. He kept wickets for all 50 overs, then opened the batting after Jewel Andrew went to hospital with a finger injury. He scored 162 not out off 143 balls (17 fours, 3 sixes) while fighting a groin niggle.
Hope and Jangoo (67) added 109 off 99 balls for the second wicket. Hope and Gudakesh Motie then took 62 off 29 balls to finish it. Hope was player of the match.
It was West Indies’ highest successful ODI chase and their first ODI win over India since 2023. The series was already gone, so the win avoided a whitewash and gave India something to fix. Both teams were fined for slow over-rates.

Biggest highlights and turning points of the tour
India’s performance in the ODI series
India’s top order was on another level. Gill, Rohit and Kohli all scored hundreds, and Rahul added one in the decider. The chases of 296 and 406 were finished with 8 wickets in hand each time.
West Indies’ fightback in the T20I series
West Indies were 1-0 down after Lucknow. They won in Ranchi by chasing 250, lost a close one in Indore, and then won in Hyderabad to square the series. Hope and Rutherford did the heavy lifting, and Paul and Chase took the wickets that mattered.
Best batting performances of the tour
Gill’s 223 not out is the one people will remember. Hope’s 162 not out in the 3rd ODI was the best innings in a losing cause that turned into a win. Kohli’s 139 not out off 88 and Iyer’s 102 not out off 43 were the other two I’d put near the top.
Hope’s T20I hundreds in Ranchi and Hyderabad each took 50 balls or fewer.
Most impactful bowling performances
Kuldeep’s 4/40 in the opener changed that game. Paul’s 5/41 in Hyderabad did the same, and Chase’s 3/24 in Ranchi was the tightest spell of the T20I series. Seales removed Gill, Kohli and Gaikwad in the 3rd ODI, and that spell nearly won West Indies the series by itself.
Key moments that defined the series
- Kuldeep’s 4 for 22 in the 1st ODI after West Indies had been 176/1.
- Gill’s 117-ball double century in Guwahati.
- Seales dismissing Gill and Kohli in one over in the 3rd ODI.
- Hope’s 162 not out and the record chase in New Chandigarh.
- Hope and Rutherford chasing 250 in Ranchi.
- Paul’s 5/41 in Hyderabad, which set up the decider.
- Rain ending the series in Bengaluru.
What we learned from the India vs West Indies series
India’s strengths and weaknesses in ODIs. The batting is settled. Gill, Rohit, Kohli and Rahul looked ready for the 2027 World Cup, and Kuldeep owns the middle overs. The seam attack is the problem. India conceded 295, 405 and 352, and bowled 20 wides in the 2nd ODI alone.
West Indies’ strengths and weaknesses in T20Is. The power hitting is real. Hope, Rutherford and Hetmyer scored at nearly 190 an over or better, and the chase in Ranchi was the best of the tour. The weak spot is death bowling. Springer went at almost 13 an over and Shamar Joseph at more than 14.
Players who impressed. Gill and Hope, obviously. Add Kuldeep, Jangoo, Rutherford, Paul and Iyer. Jangoo made three scores of 50 or more in the ODIs.
Areas both teams need to improve. India need a third seamer they trust and a steadier top order in T20Is, where Samson scored 11, 82, 3 and 56. West Indies need control with the ball before the ODI World Cup qualifiers, since they can’t qualify directly.
